Assesses,plans, implements and evaluates care for all age patients in operating room.Provides care within nursing standards of practice and the policies of theCenter. Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicatesappropriate information to physicians, patients, family members, and personnelin other departments as well as team members. May have additionalresponsibilities as designated by the Nurse Manager of the Operating Roomand/or Director of Nursing, which include, but are not limited to, serving oncommittees, participating in quality improvement audits and projects.
1.Preoperatively conducts a physical andpsychosocial assessment on each patient.
2.Develop an individualized perioperative plan of care.
3.Implement the plan of care using the followinginterventions:
a.Protect patientfrom injury caused by chemical, electrical, laser, positioning, thermalsources, and extraneous objects.
b.Perform count procedures to protect patient from unintended retainedforeign objects.
c.Perform interventions necessary to ensure patientâs procedure isperformed on the correct site, side, and level.
d.Manage patientâs specimen(s) in the appropriate manner.
e.Communicate patientâs current status throughout the continuum of care.
f.Administer medication(s) appropriately.
g.Perform interventions to maintain patient's wound and tissue perfusion ator above baseline levels.
h.Perform interventions to maintain the status of the patientâsgenitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory,cardiovascular, and neurological systems, and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-basebalances at or above baseline levels.
i.Perform interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned tonormothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period.
j.Perform interventions to protect patient from infection.
k.Assess knowledge level of patient or designated support person andprovide education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritionalmanagement, medication management, pain management, wound management, andexpected responses to the operative or invasive procedure.
l.Actively involve patient or designated support person in decisionsaffecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process.
m.Provide culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care within legalstandards of practice.
4.Transfer care as appropriate.
5.Delegate tasks as appropriate according to the stateNurse Practice Act and job descriptions.
6.Documents nursing care in the appropriate system.
7.Participate in quality review and performanceimprovement projects.
8.Maintain required competencies.
9.All other duties as assigned.
1.Bachelorâsdegree in Nursing from an approved school of nursing. Associateâs degree inNursing will be considered if applicant is currently enrolled in a BSN program
2.Currentlylicensed in the state of California or the ability to obtain license beforestart date
4.One(1) or more years of experience intra-operative setting
