The Registered Nurse, Ambulatory Surgery Unit, located at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, IL, works collaboratively with the physician and anesthesia healthcare providers to determine patient needs prior to and following surgical procedures. The Registered Nurse assumes responsibility for patient care, documentation, and evaluation of the effectiveness of nursing actions while ensuring a safe environment of care. The Registered Nurse, Ambulatory Surgery Unit, performs duties that include, but are not limited to: Specializes in caring for young adult and geriatric Veterans through pre-operative and post-operative procedures, plus caring intra-operatively for Veterans receiving endoscopy procedures; Performs patient assessment and provides education prior to surgery or an invasive procedure that require some type of sedation or anesthesia is critical to safe patient care; Identifies patients who are higher risk to receive sedation/anesthesia; Ensures the patient will have a competent adult to accompany them on the day of the procedure/have a competent adult who can ensure their safety for 24 hours after the procedure; Accountable for promoting safety, continuity/quality of care and general well-being of the Veteran; Provides care in multiple areas including Ambulatory Surgery Unit, Surgery Clinic, IV Therapy, Urology Clinic, and PACU. Work Schedule: 8-00 am - 4:30 pm; part-time hours will be scheduled as 20 hours per week Financial Discloser Report: Not required
