This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until June 30, 2021. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be Monday, 8 January 2021, with subsequent cut-off dates every Monday. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. The Birmingham VA Health Care System (BVAHCS) is a 313-bed acute tertiary care facility located in the historic Southside district of the city. The facility provides acute tertiary medical and surgical care to Veterans of Alabama and surrounding states. The medical center serves as a referral center for this population area with 141 operating beds currently. Recent construction provides state-of-the-art facilities and equipment in all clinical programs. Care is provided in practically all medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties. Most staff physicians have joint appointments with VA and its primary affiliation, University of Alabama at Birmingham. The BVAMC operates nine Community Based Outpatient Clinics in North Alabama. NOTE: This position will support efforts related to the COVID-19 public health emergency. Candidates will be rated and referred over as applications are received due to the urgency to fill these positions. NAs are responsible for the entire scope of patient care, to include direct patient care, patient admission, discharge, transfer, errand duties, and delivery of medical supplies/equipment when needed. This is an active general medical and surgical medical center with a large ambulatory care program and an extensive research and professional training program affiliated with the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. The incumbent assigned to this position is a member of the Nursing team. The NA is assigned by licensed personnel to care for the patients by taking vital signs, collecting specimens, performing EKG's, assisting with transport, and providing dressing changes, and usual daily activities to include bathing, linen changes, assistance with feeding patients, assistance with toileting, and post-mortem care. Work Schedule: Day, Evening and Night Tours available. Selectee's specific tour will be determined by Supervisor/Manager upon hire, and will be based on the needs of the unit. May be required to work weekends, holidays during the week, and rotating on call, but must be able to change schedule to accommodate the needs of the service.
