The incumbent will be assigned to the STRIDE program at the Fargo, North Dakota VA to assist the inpatient STRIDE Physical Therapist (PT) in early mobilization of Veterans. This position is located on the inpatient Medical/Surgical Unit (3M), supervised by the 3M Nursing Manager. Duties include, but are not limited to: Ambulates Veterans as directed. Demonstrates ability to work and communicate effectively with patients, families, significant others, co-workers, and other health professionals in order to promote the highest functioning possible of the patient. Performs ongoing review of patients with a variety of diagnosis regarding physical and functional status while ambulating. Ability to vary the order and sequence of assigned procedures based on the patient's condition. Accurately and consistently reports and documents significant patient information. Identifies when the patient is approaching their maximum level of ambulatory function. Contact with unit personnel for the purpose of contributing information and enhance discharge planning. Identifies negative physiologic responses during ambulation and reports to RN. While promoting STRIDE goals, assists in techniques relating to patient outcomes such as fall prevention and pressure ulcer prevention. Assist with care of acutely ill and more complex patients. Makes observations of subtle changes in patient's condition and reports to RN. Assists in monitoring and documentation as directed. Obtains and records temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, pulse oximetry, height, weight. Observes patients for appropriate oxygen administration and performs pulse oximeter readings. Ensures correct placement of O2 via nasal cannula/mask. Exchange oxygen tanks without adjusting oxygen LPM. Reinforces patient teaching. Serves as an active member of the interdisciplinary team to contribute to goals related to discharge criteria Demonstrates skill/knowledge/ability to perform treatments, procedures and the use and reprocessing of reusable medical equipment appropriate to assigned duties. Maintains and stocks supplies on the unit as directed. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
