Occ Summary
Perform a variety of activities related to the t ransportation ofpatients, specimens and equipment. Greet and assist pati ents andvisitors at hospital and clinics as directed.
Work P erformed
Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areasvia wheelchair, stretcher or van service as requested to in cludetransport of patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips a ndspecial equipment.Assist clinical personnel in transferringpatients to and from beds, wheelchairs or stretcher asrequested.Assist people in an d out of vehicles and escort ortransport them to and from hospital lobby : carry luggage, opendoors and obtain messenger service for the transpor tation of people toother hospital locations.Approach, greet and offer as sistanceand direction to customers entering the hospital.Assist in thelo ading and unloading of patients onto ambulances and vans duringperiods o f PRT non-service.Collect specimens, orders,requisitions and equipment a nd deliver items to appropriatedestinations.Assist in maintaining order and cleanliness inhospital lobby and entrance.Assist nursing staff with removalof expired bodies from units and transport tomorgue.Participates in the training of newemployees.Ensure patient is properly identified be foretransporting.Ensure equipment is clean and workingproperly.May trans port to the OR, assist in room turnover andconfirm OR packet is signedCo nfirm method of transport andspecial needs.Attend educational programs a sdirected.Perform other related duties incidental to the workdescribed h erein
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires good v erbal communication skills to interact with patient,families' doctors an d clinical staff.Ability to follow oral andwritten instructions.Requires much walking, lifting and physical exertion. Operation ofmachines and e quipment. Ability to lift, push or pull 100-200 pounds.Requires full ran ge of motion.The ability to transport patients to various hospital locat ions is alsorequired.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
BCLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of the orientation period. A valid North Carolina driver's license may also be required.
