This position provides effective management for the operations of the materials management department, and is responsible for all operational, technical, and personnel activities associated with assigned areas of supply chain and inventory management. This position will focus on cost, quality and outcomes and a Service Level Agreement will define the outcomes and assigned areas of focus. In an Area Director assignment this position will have accountability and oversight for one or more facilities, which may be geographically separated.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the effective management and operations of the assigned materials management department(s) and/or assigned system or region level supply chain projects, including all operational, technical, and personnel activities associated with supplies and equipment to all nursing and non-nursing units within the medical facilities.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Conducts operational planning. Establishes, implements, and administers department goals, objectives, policies, procedures, new programs and services. Assists the Director in the annual budget planning each year with anticipating upcoming changes and additions for the following year???s budget. Makes forecasts based on volume trends to meet budget and staffing needs. Ensures that department goals are aligned with facility and company goals and objectives.
2. Develops and maintains a competent and motivated staff through appropriate selection, training, discipline, feedback, performance management and termination of subordinate personnel as appropriate. Develops staff through assessing and managing performance and providing education and training.
3. Manages operational function and provides direction and leadership. Acts as a role model for organization values and behaviors; communicates mission, vision, and values. Works to align department functions and processes that will achieve department goals as well as facility goals in an efficient manner. Leads teams, conducts effective meetings, removes barriers, and engages in synergistic problem solving through effective communication, delegation, coaching/counseling, and active listening. Leads by respect, integrity, example, and service. Promotes trust not only with department staff, but also customers and contacts.
4. Improves organizational and operational performance. Ensures a cost effective operation by assisting with appropriate budget preparation, monitoring, and controlling of associated department expenses. Identities and implements methods for reducing operational expenditures of both supply and equipment, while focusing on improving standardization and utilization, resulting in increased efficiency and customer satisfaction. Regularly updates processes and procedures to align with company and regulatory requirements.
5. Builds effective relationships. Interacts frequently with facility staff and physicians to provide high quality services. Assess customer satisfaction levels while obtaining direct feedback regarding the department???s performance, resolves problems, and identifies new opportunities to improve services and cost effectiveness. Promotes a positive customer service attitude both within and outside the department by maintaining effective working relationships. Promotes win-win relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
6. Leads and/or participates in regional projects and process development to achieve ???Smarter, Faster, Better, Together??? goals. Assists in the development and implementation of regional policies, procedures and process for improvements for Materials Management. Builds consistencies across region(s) and facilities in work roles, responsibilities and processes. Promotes standardization within Materials policies and procedures, with the goal of breaking down the barriers and misconceptions across region facilities materials management departments, achieving a much more unified organization. Negotiates agreements amongst end users to coordinate efficient processes and inventory costs.
7. Position has both facility & region responsibility, works under limited supervision using independent judgment to achieve goals. Internal customers are other Banner Health staff, nurses, physicians, patients, visitors, supervisors, managers and executives. External customers are patients, visitors, vendors, other company facilities, and non-company medical facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a bachelor???s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business or a related field, or equivalent knowledge and experience.
Requires the skills, knowledge and abilities typically acquired through five or more years of Materials Management and related experience which includes extensive work with of medical/surgical supplies & computerized inventory control. Effective leadership, organizational, negotiation, communication and human relations skills are necessary as the incumbent will be coordinating several projects simultaneously and working closely with department managers and all levels of staff and subordinates. For positions in the Ambulatory Surgery Center setting 2 or more years of supply chain experience in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) industry is required.
Must be able to work effectively with the materials management inventory system and all common office software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Two or more years of supervisory/management experience in medical supply is preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
