This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. Develops a plan of care by the preparation of the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, necessary supplies, and equipment as indicated by the patient's illness. Coordinates preparational activities of the Post Anesthesia Care with other members of the Operating Room (OR) and Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU) and across the continuum of this medical facility. Review and act on test results (Lab, X-Rays) and initiate and monitor intravenous IV infusions. Assist of perform procedures (e.g. EKGs, dressing changes, subcutaneous or intramuscular injections. Assists in transportation of the patient to the responsible family member prior to discharge as needed. Implements the plan of care prior to surgery and other necessary medical procedure as directed by the provider. Provides and maintains a safe and comfortable environment for the patient. Demonstrates the ability to give comprehensive nursing care to meet the total needs of the patient. Communicates with the Anesthesiologist the need for services required of other departments (e.g., radiology, laboratory and pathology, pharmacy, Medical Media, ect.) Notifies relatives of progress of surgery and communicates any messages as directed by the provider. Accurately records nursing actions and provider directions in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit Report, which reflects the nursing care provided during the surgical procedure. Evaluates the care given by comparing psychological and physical needs. Demonstrates knowledge and judgment needed to meet the nursing needs of the patient. Correlates operative procedure with human anatomy and physiology involved. Demonstrates organizational ability by using time, equipment, and personnel effectively. Communicates with other nursing units and hospital departments as necessary in lending knowledge and care for the patients involved. Demonstrates a skill in interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and coworkers. Demonstrates sill in oral and written communication techniques. Maintains a responsible attitude toward appropriate and efficient management of the hospital.
