Many of our interns and residents earn a position at Tennessee Valley Healthcare System after completion of their program. Two part-time positions are available to support the Meharry Affiliated Residency Training Program. *****Recruitment INCENTIVE *****EDRP Incentive***** To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Must have DEA License Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board Eligible; Board Certified is preferred Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. Residency Site Director (.5) - responsible for overall administration and direction of the Psychiatry Residency Program. Resident Supervisor (.75) - heavily involved in resident supervision. Both positions will be co-hired with dual appointments and effort between TVHS and Meharry Medical College. Remaining FTEE provided by Meharry affiliate. Clinical work for these positions will be based on incumbents' interest. As a psychiatrist, the incumbent will operate in a manner promoting success in all applicable performance measures and ensuring compliance with all applicable accreditation standards. Always act in a thoroughly professional manner working in harmony with other members of the professional and technical staff; tact and courtesy are mandatory. Provides clinical services as assigned in the Psychiatry Service and reports administratively to the Chief of Psychiatry. Practices independently using professional judgement and expertise to make decisions about services and treatment provided to Veterans and their significant others/family members. He/she consults with the supervisor as needed and with colleagues to develop knowledge and apply agency policies and practices to new matters. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Treatment for beneficiaries with general psychiatric disorders in a variety of treatment settings. Tele-Mental Health will be used as appropriate based on patient needs. Must be skilled in Psychotherapy and Psychopharmacology and must be able to provide a comprehensive clinical summary/psychiatric summary. Collaborate with approved fee-based community Mental Health (MH) inpatient programs to assist/coordinate discharge planning, medication, and follow-up appointments as well as coordinate with ambulatory care services, as appropriate. Ensure accreditation requirements are met for all applicable survey and inspection processes, to Include, but not limited to, compliance with JCAHO, CARF, and OIG. Document patient care in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). Training regarding the use of CPRS along with all applicable expectations for content, timeliness and other standards will be provided by the VAMC. All documentation shall be completed in accordance with VA policy and procedures. Follow all VA guidelines regarding infection control and safety. Assigned to treatment teams and adhere to team meeting responsibilities. Provides compensation and pension examinations/reviews as assigned to support mental health service's responsibility to VA regional offices on Veterans who require C&P examinations/reviews for VA benefit decision. Provide comprehensive clinical psychiatric evaluations, treatment evaluations, treatment plans, and treatment. Write admission orders for either campus with transfer orders.
