The Service Line Director is responsible for strategic leadership, program development and evaluation, operations and financial performance, patient experience, and the continuous improvement of the service line. This position will lead and support several clinical departments, diagnostic services, inpatient, and outpatient settings across the disease continuum in several locations across 5 states.
The Pediatric Service Line Director oversees highly complex, high profile service lines such as the Pediatric Heart Center or Pediatric Cancer Center.
The Heart Center at Primary Children’s Hospital is a nationally recognized, high acuity, high volume program providing lifesaving care to children and young adults with the most complex congenital and acquired heart disease and serving as the only comprehensive congenital heart program across the Intermountain West. Ranked 12th nationally by U.S. News & World Report in 2025, the Heart Center delivers coordinated, family centered care across the full continuum, from fetal diagnosis to adult congenital and transplant care, supported by more than 60 University of Utah clinicians and over 600 Intermountain Health caregivers. With more than 20 subspecialty programs and among the highest pediatric cardiac volumes in the country, nursing leadership is central to achieving exceptional outcomes, advancing evidence based practice, and ensuring seamless care across inpatient, procedural, ambulatory, and outreach settings. The Service Line Director plays a pivotal role in unifying cardiac clinical operations across Primary Children’s Hospital and the University of Utah, aligning practice, culture, and strategy to deliver integrated, high quality care and improve the lives of children and families across the region.
Essential Functions
Leads strategy, new program development, and business planning of the pediatric service line across the health system.
Interacts and aligns with all levels of the organization throughout Intermountain Health (both acute and ambulatory based) and its associated academic institution.
Designs the care delivery model and best practices standards including seamless access and care across the continuum with the integration of clinical trials and other research and education initiatives.
Ensures integration of the program(s) across all facilities to deliver the highest quality at the lowest appropriate cost.? This position has budget accountability and is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the service line across all settings of care.
Builds and maintains effective relationships with employed and affiliated specialty physicians to create strong physician alignment.? In collaboration with program Medical Directors, develops the model for providing disease site physician expertise (including the delivery of care involving clinical trials) while balancing geographic challenges.

Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated experience and expertise developing and implementing strategic, operational and program development plans to improve safety, quality, patient experience, and access, while reducing the cost Experience in achieving results in both line management and matrixed management environments
Experience in a role requiring the financial dimension of management budgeting, financial monitoring, and business development
Experience in a role requiring skills related to balancing clinical, regulatory, and financial goals and outcomes and collaborating with all levels within an organization.
Proven track record of leadership including achieving results with and through others.
Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in a business or health related field.? Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution and education will be verified.
5 years of service line leadership experience.
Experience working in a pediatric academic medical center preferred
Physical Requirements
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.

With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.
